The company, based in Ibach, Switzerland, is especially known for the good old Swiss Army Officer Knives, which are also simply known as Swiss Army Knives. They have been used in the Swiss military since 1891 and are now used in many places around the world. In 1908, the knife company Wenger & Cie was also chosen as a supplier of Swiss knives to the Swiss military. There was a "gentleman-agreement" between the two companies, so that Victorinox (which is the original manufacturer) called their product "the Original Swiss Army knife", and Wenger then called theirs "the real Swiss Army knife". In 2005, the company Wenger & Cie was acquired by Victorinox. On January 30, 2013, the two brands merged into one brand.
