Helly Hansen

Helly Hansen is an international company headquartered in Norway. The company was founded way back in 1877 by Helly Juell Hansen, who was a sailor and captain. However, the company was sold in the 1970s, but until then, the company was only family-owned. When Helly Juell Hansen was a sailor, he knew about someone everything for both the conditions and the needs at sea. The brand has therefore been a great success right from the start - and is, as you know, still as popular today as it was then. Together with his wife Maren Margrethe, Helly Juell Hansen started a production of oilskin jackets, trousers and other clothing, which was a necessity when living as a sailor at sea. The clothing was made of coarse linen, which had been dipped in linseed oil. The purpose of this unique treatment was to keep the heat and at the same time keep the water out. At the time, the young Helly Juell Hansen was just 35 years old, and he had been working at sea at the time since he was just 15 years old.

Important years in Helly Hansen's history

In the year 1878 he won an award for his beautiful clothing collection for the Paris Expoo, and then the couple started exporting the goods. In 1882, the company reached 10,000 pieces. clothing. This suggests to that extent that the young captain had a sense of producing exactly the type of clothing that both sailors and other outdoor enthusiasts needed. After the owner's death in 1914, there was a change in ownership of the company when his son Levi took over the leadership of Helly Hansen.

The three layers

According to Helly Hansen, there are three very essential layers that are ideal for outdoor. The first was the so-called Helox, which is a thin, waterproof and lightweight material. In 1949, this material became the good successor to the oilskin jackets. This material was produced in great style. In fact, approx. 30,000 pcs. every month, which is a clear proof of the insane success that Helox was. The fleece was created in the year 1961, which is a material that has since then been constantly developed on to achieve the perfect perfection. The fleece works perfectly under Helox as a second layer. The reason for this is that the fleece both insulates, does not weigh much and is also a quick-drying material. The last and third essential layer in the so-called Helly Hansen trilogy is the material LIFA, which emerged back in the 1970s. This material is a fibrous material that is both moisture-absorbing and sweat-absorbent. Based on this, this layer is therefore for good reasons absolutely perfect as the innermost layer of the three layers.
